Mt. Davidson Cross Time Capsule Contents Display June-Sept. 2023
The fascinating contents of the 89-year-old Mt. Davidson Cross time capsule are now on display at the San Francisco Historical Society Museum at 608 Commercial Street. The museum is free and open Thurs. – Sat. 10AM – 4PM. I helped with creating a timeline for the exhibit.
The display cases include only a portion of what was inside.
- First shovel of dirt for building the permanent cross
- Cross construction donation slips
- Boy Scout Troop 88 was asked to be guardians of the time capsule.

Mt. Davidson Park Founder, Madie Brown, included a poem she wrote about the park. This is a portion of it.
- A large collection of newspapers were in the time capsule.
- The front pages of several of them have been reproduced for the exhibit.
- Sunrise Service Programs 1923-32
- Pictures of temporary crosses that preceded the permanent one constructed in 1934
- 1932 Telephone Directory
