Legacy of James M. Liggett

Read the story of one branch of the Liggett family in America, starting with my great-great-great grandfather, James M. Liggett, who was born in County Armagh, Ireland. He crossed the Atlantic in 1832, when he was 20-years old, possibly to work as an indentured weaver in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Here he married Jane McCarty, and their daughter, Lena, was born. Afterward he followed the growth of America westward to Ohio and Illinois, finally to homestead in Seward County, Nebraska. He lived to the age of 87 and had at least four more children: Thomas, Elizabeth, Martin, and George. See more at  LiggettFamily.org.
